Sort the Post

For an inbox that needs a post room

Sort the PostGmail filters from a few of your own emails.

Paste a few of the emails that clutter your inbox and say where each kind should go. One run writes a Gmail search, a label and the actions for each wish - built only from senders and words you pasted. The page tests every search on your emails and gives you a file Gmail imports.

Or drop a .txt, .csv or .json file here. Only senders and subjects are used - never paste message bodies.

One run writes a Gmail search, a label and the actions for each wish, using only senders and words from your emails, and says which wishes need more to go on. It never deletes or forwards mail. The page re-tests every search.

          How it works

A Gmail filter is a search plus what to do with the mail it finds. The page understands the part of Gmail's search that can be checked on a sender and a subject: from:, to:, subject:, plain words, "quoted phrases", OR, a minus to exclude, {braces} for any of, and brackets. Other operators such as has:attachment or older_than: are passed through to Gmail untouched; the page treats them as matching, and says so.

The run only uses senders, domains and words that appear in what you pasted, so it cannot guess at mail it has not seen. Real filters also look at message bodies, which the page never sees - a search that catches none of your samples may still work on the body text.

The download is the same kind of file Gmail's own filter export writes. Gmail creates the labels it names if they do not exist yet. The page never writes filters that delete or forward mail.
